New government requirements for health information privacy prompted Blue Cross Blue Shield to look at facility design to better accommodate public interaction. Shultz & Associates designed an addition; stainless steel panels remained the predominate building skin. Fenestration in the new customer service area opens the interior to the exterior through taught expanses of curtain wall with eyebrow overhangs. The proportion and rhythm of the organizing grid carries into the addition, yet the rotated axes within the customer service area provides an interesting counterpoint to the warmth of the wood and fresco plaster wall in the lobby.
