Food Bank offers sincere thanks

05/24/2009

Hunger limits the potential in children, it decreases quality of life for seniors and weighs heavy on the minds and shoulders of hard-working families. As the need for emergency food assistance continues to increase in our community, the Great Plains Food Bank must rely heavily on our community partners.

We are delighted to have been chosen as the beneficiary of Canstruction 2009, a design/build competition that creates structures entirely out of canned foods – showcasing the ingenuity of Fargo-Moorhead’s design community.

We wish to thank this year’s event sponsors – the Young Architects Forum/North Dakota Chapter and the North Dakota Interior Designers, Nash Finch, West Acres, KX4/Valley News Live and the following six teams that created incredible structures resulting in more than 12,000 pounds of food to be distributed throughout our network of charitable feeding programs across the state.

Shultz & Associates Ltd., JLG Architects, Foss Architecture and Interiors, NDSU Student Interior Designers, Lightowler Johnson Associates, Syverson Tile and Stone, Border States Electric Supply, Floor to Ceiling Carpet One and Inside 515.

It truly starts with one can to feed the hungry, to lift the spirit, to change the world. The cans used in this year’s competition will become part of a food basket that is received by a senior citizen on a fixed income or part of a hot meal served at a community soup kitchen frequented by working families and their children.

On behalf of the more than 57,000 individuals across our state who will benefit from your generosity, we extend our thanks and congratulations on a very successful event.

Together we will create a hunger-free community.
